Kimberly Bernard

Co-Founder, Executive Director

Why I chase: I chase because I wasn’t able to receive certain opportunities when I needed it because it wasn’t highly available. Providing necessary opportunities for our community, especially young girls, is important to me because there is always an obstacle and someone there to try and tell you that “you can’t”, but I chase to be sure that it’s always “I can” because the resources have been made available to continue to push forward.

My personal mission: My hope is that with this nonprofit more doors will be made open for those that need just a little push to get to the next level and that not only the young children receive resources but those teaching and providing help to grow the next generation.

Why I chase: I chase to inspire others and grow at the same time. We didn’t have a lot of opportunities such as this or weren’t aware of the opportunities. So, if I could encourage one and someone else encourage another.

My personal mission: is to learn from others, step out of my comfort zone and help anyone if I can.

Why I chase: From a young age, I knew that I had a passion for working with children. I would find myself always looking out for the younger children in the neighborhood and making sure that they were safe when their parents were not around. As an only child, but the oldest grandchild, I found myself living a life that was an example for my younger cousins. I made sure that carried myself in a way that would make my family proud, and I strived to be a positive role model. As a teen I began working in daycare and loved every second of watching young minds blossom. I continued working in daycare throughout college even though I majored in something completely different from teaching, I could never get away from my calling of working with children. After college I came back to the Dallas Metroplex and still worked in the daycare field. We all know that there is no money in working with children, it is all about the love of children, but bills cannot be paid in love. I tried working in the financial industry since that was what I had my degree in, I was not happy and missed working with the kiddos. I decided to open my own in-home childcare and love it! I say all that to say that children are my calling, and I would like to further make differences in young girls’ lives through Chasing Sisterhood.

My personal mission: I desire to mentor young girls into being positive women in society. I want them to have a voice and a safe place to express themselves. I would like them to know that they have someone in the community that cares about them.
